A day of creativity and making.

Join us at the beautiful Seven West Studio in Ocean Grove for a day of creativity, connection and making. This boutique full-day workshop is designed for small groups of up to six participants, ensuring a personalised experience. You’ll engage in both woodblock printing and basket weaving, guided by skilled artisans, Julie and Sally.

Start your day with Julie, who will introduce you to the art of woodblock printing. You'll design and print your own wrapping paper, linen tea towel and handmade paper card, all with expert guidance.

Sally will lead the afternoon session focused on basket weaving. Using hand-dyed raffia, you'll create your own unique, colourful trinket basket. Plus, you’ll leave with notes and a starter kit to continue your weaving journey at home.

Enjoy tea, coffee, and home-baked treats throughout the day and savour a light gourmet lunch made with fresh, local ingredients.

We hope this day offers a chance to learn but also an opportunity to relax, enjoy delicious food and connect with like-minded creatives.

  • Session 1: Wood Block Print

In this hands-on session, you will learn the process of woodblock printing. You'll start by experimenting and printing on wrapping paper using your chosen blocks and coloured ink. After finalising your design, you'll move on to printing on a 100% linen tea towel and a handmade paper card.

  • Session 2: Basket Weaving (Coiling)

This session will equip you with the skills and techniques to craft your own baskets. You'll receive makers' notes, and all the materials required to make two cup-sized baskets. You will learn the techniques of wrapped core basketry using hand-dyed raffia to create your own unique and colourful pieces. The focus is the hands-on experience — you'll start your creation, learn the magic circle, coiling and finish your unique piece like a professional.

If you have a question please don’t hesitate to get in contact with Julie.

Meet the maker: Julie

Julie's passion for textiles and design was sparked by her mother, who taught her the art of sewing and nurtured her love for design from an early age. Her appreciation for ancient crafts deepened over the years as she explored Morocco, various countries across Europe and embarked on a textile tour of India. Julie treasures the creative process involved with block printing and takes great joy in watching the unique outcomes of her participants designs, as each one reflects a different approach and vision.

Meet the Maker: Sally

Sally has always been a maker. There is not a time in her life when she hasn’t been creating. It was as a graduate of RMIT Studio Textile Design that she discovered the magic of basket weaving. She particularly loves weaving off–loom, which offers the flexibility and freedom to take her work with her wherever she goes. She has been known to pack raffia in her hand luggage and once wove a basket during the plane journey home from London to Melbourne. Sally says once you catch the weaving bug it’s impossible to stop!
